Film of My Choice!

I chose the film called 'My Sassy Girl'.

'My Sassy Girl' is the tale of the first and last time Charlie Bello falls in love. From their initial meeting, trouble is the name of the game. Imagine an amorphous mass of dating disasters and you get an idea of the relationship between the young couple. Some mysterious force with the strength of gravity between two planets must be at play between Charlie and Jordan as the relationship truly makes no sense on the surface. Everything seems pitted against the two of them. Things suddenly come to a halt when the two write letters confessing their love for each other. Agreeing to meet a year later to read the love letters together, Charlie and Jordan go their separate ways.
[= It is the American remake from a popular Korean film. =] (H-Ref 1)

It's a really good film. ^_^ *two thumbs up*We can see the different shot compositions throughout the film.

Also by identifying the:
Who? - characters include a boy and a girl.

What? - Such events leading to a chance encounter between the two. Boy meets girl, falls in love, girl is unpredictable but there's something about her. Thus, the story begins.

Where? - Basically set in New York City and various popular places in New York such as (Central Park, Restaurants, Ice Ring, Amusement Park, Galleries and etc.)

When? - I don't know how I can link this point to the film?..I guess its about the time when people need to be blown away from their standstill and move on to something they deserve better.

Why? - This is something to ponder about, the girl is a mystery and the boy wants to see how the story ends? Common incentive.

How? - I also have no clue how to link this? I would say the how focuses on the values, attitudes and beliefs of what you make of the film and how it can be unpredictable. Life. ^_^

Lecture 5

So this week's lecture has been quite entertaining.. We had like this weird guest lecturer..Jason Nelson.. He was hilarious..seriously. =P.

He was like showing us.. like how the internet in Australia is actually quite slow..too many people on it I suppose.. and that other countries internet are also quite as slow... and he went on explain various concepts about the internet. He went on about past examples of social networking for example Myspace (weirdest old version of it), showed us an old page of Yahoo too.. =D

So long ago people got paid for just putting up links. Furthermore, he talked about various search engines been bought, sold and what not.. you know.. like Google bought Youtube and so on.. still located in the internet.. so much junk.. god I hate spam.. thought I'd just add that in.. LOL! [I use Google way too much..>.<]Also the lecturer bagging out some students in the lecture.. LOL

I could say that I don't regret waking up 6.30am (carpooling with friends)in the morning for this lecture.. it was pretty cool.. I'd say. ^_^

Lecture 4

So this week's lecture was basically about the history and time line of films. From the first narrative film to vibrators. Lol.. I'm serious, look into the lecture notes on Learning@griffith. Anyways, I got lost from lecture.. it was too much information for me.. Um.. yeah. I'm not that great in backtracking or remember either. =P

I know for a fact that the first narratives films didnt really need a time limit. Most films back then can go for long periods of time in filming, for example a silent film can go up to four to five hours, and yeah they would create pilot episodes also.
Josh talked about the first American narrative film, came out in 1903. He also mention 'Nickelodeons' not the cartoon/family entertainment you know on payTV. It was known as actual theaters, real movie theaters. So yeah pretty cool. These things stayed up real late too..Found image Here. Through Google of course. LolFrom what I can gather from this lecture was pretty much the history about everything..from film narratives to movies and now Youtube. Lol.. good times..
Pretty interesting lecture.. so yeah.. that's all from me..

Thanks for reading ^^..

The Internet Time Line and History of Computing!

Lets start with The History of Computing!

- Abacus: c. 3000 BC
- Transistors: 1947
- Apple II: 1977
- IBM PC: 1981
- World Wide Web: 1991
(H-Ref 1)

Alan Turing, born in England in 1912, did most of the serious work for the development of the computer. After the War, Turing investigated "programming, neural nets, and the prospects for artificial intelligence." (H-Ref 2)

In the 1950's, IBM produced the first commercially available computers. Huge machines.. unattractive but effective.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded a computer company known as Apple. Jobs and Wozniak made a primitive machine with a single circuit board, no case and no keyboard and called it the Apple I. It cost around $USA666.60. They came back with the Apple II after the collapse of the Apple I, which basically made them a fortune by 1978. (H-Ref 2)

The Time Line of the Internet

~1969: known as the ARPANET was brought online. Basically, it allowed computers to
share information with each other across military and scientific fields.
~1972: Ray Tomlinson adapted e-mail for ARPANET
~1981: BITNET connected IBM mainframes around the educational community and the world to provide mail services
~1986: the National Science Foundation funded NSFNet as a cross country 56 Kbps backbone for the Internet
~1991: the first really friendly interface to the Internet was developed at the University of Minnesota.
~1998: Bill Gates releases Windows '98 with the internet browser well integrated into the system. (H-Ref 3)
~Today: We can see, Wireless internet on wireless computers and WLAN on mobile phones..it just keeps going..I mean, accessing internet on your fridge, talk about 'Convergence'..Technology has advanced so much, thus it will NEVER die.. I mean, too much people have put too much work into it.. =P

Language of the Screen

ECU:Tried to Find Out Through – Google, Acronym Finder and Ask.com: - typed ECU (came across; East Catholic University, Edith Cowan University and Engine Control Uni and blah blah…lots of wrong answers.
FINALLY!! It means Extreme Close-Up, a shot with a very narrow field of view. In terms of human figure, a small part of the face, such as the lips, or an eye may fill the frame.(H-Ref 4)

WS: Basically, I tried to find what ECU means first, but then it all came together if you typed ECU, WS and MS in the Google search bar and eventually you’ll be able to find it. That’s what our tutor told us. I couldn’t find it for myself. Lame =_=”
It means Wide Shot, a wide shot is one that is wide. More specifically, it would be the shot that shows a whole building or store is as opposed to the medium shot which may be the doors of that building. (H-Ref 5)

MS: it means Mid Shot, between the extremes of the long shot and the close-up, the medium shot usually shows a person or persons from the knees up, or views a scene at a “normal” viewing distance. (H-Ref 6)

Thanks for reading. ^^

Savenger Hunt!!

Okay..So I'm Not using google or wikipedia, here are the answers to some weird questions. This is the task for this week 4 tutorial. I didn't show up because I had family matters to attend to. Well..here it goes..

1. What is the weight of the world's biggest pumpkin? How long did it take to grow?

Joe Jutras from North Scituate, Rhode Island, brought a 1689 pound pumpkin to the Topsfield Fair GPC weigh-off in Topsfield, Ma. on September 29, 2007. His new world record beat the previous world record by 187 pounds. Last year's world record holder was Ron Wallace with a 1502 pound pumpkin at the Rhode Island Weighoff on October 7, 2006. (H-Ref 1)

It didn't mention how long did it take to grow... Oh well.. ^^"

That's huge! it looks like we found Cinderella carriage..

2. Best (quickest, fastest) way to contact Lily Allen?

Um..go to her Myspace or Facebook which is a start.. Or her Website. (H-Ref 3)

3. How long is a giraffe's tongue?

A giraffe's tongue is 18 to 20 inches (46 to 50 centimeters) long and blue-black. Some people think the color is to keep the tongue from getting sunburned. Giraffes can moo, hiss, roar, and whistle.

Click here for more Images. (H-Ref 4)

4. Define "glycomics" and in your own words, what does it really mean? What does the term seagull manager" refer to?

The term glycomics is derived from the chemical prefix for sweetness or a sugar, "glyco-", and was formed to follow the naming convention established by genomics (which deals with genes) and proteomics (which deals with proteins). The definition of glycomics has evolved to cover a range of scientific disciplines that are applied to study the structure and function of carbohydrates (sugars) in biological systems.

The nine common sugars found in mammalian cells can be combined in a myriad number of ways to form complex carbohydrate structures (glycans). The glycan repertoire (glycome) of a given cell or organism is thus many orders of magnitude more complex than the genome or the proteome.

The emerging field of glycomics is gathering momentum to earn its place alongside other established ‘omics fields such as genomics and proteomics. (H-Ref 5)

As for 'Seagull Manager'.. it means..

transient, highly critical manager: a manager whose interaction with the workforce consists in arriving, criticizing everything and everybody harshly, and leaving again.
(H-Ref 6)

5. What was David Cronenberg's first feature film? Which of his films had "Blondie" in it?

The first feature film was called 'Transfer' (1996) & Blondie was in 'Videodrome' (1983). (H-Ref 7)

6. When was the original "Hackers Manifesto" written?

Written almost 15 years ago by The Mentor, this should be taped up next to everyone's monitor to remind them who we are, this rang true with Hackers, but it now rings truth to the internet generation. (H-Ref 8)

7. Why do phone numbers in Hollywood films always start with 555?

"555" is an exchange number commonly thought to be reserved by the phone companies for use by TV and Hollywood movies in order to prevent prank phone calls to real people. In fact, only 555-0100 through 555-0199 are now specifically reserved for fictional use, and the other numbers have been released for actual assignment. The 555 exchange was originally useful for this purpose because it was (in North America) reserved for various internal phone company service numbers, so calling one of the 555 numbers would not have reached an actual customer. (H-Ref 9)

8. Cheapest form of travel from Gold Coast to Sydney?

I reckon the cheapest way to travel would be by plane...if your deciding to go one way..which is pretty cheap.. cost about from $60 to $ 80 per person, don't forget including tax...You can fly through Qantas, Virgin Blue or Jetstar.. The cheapest I researched was Virgin Blue..Also I recommend you bring your own food..its such a rip-off on the planes when buying snacks..LOL (H-Ref 10)

9. Top song in the Australian Pop Charts this week in 1965?

Shakin' All Over
NORMIE ROWE & THE PLAYBOYS
Released in 1965

Melbourne singer Normie Rowe became Australia's top teen idol of the late 60s and the star of Ivan Dayman's Sunshine label. He had a string of hits in Australia from 1965, recorded four singles in London, toured Britain and America, and even inspired a tribute song, Norman-Normie. (H-Ref 11)

10. Which Brisbane band includes Stephen Stockwell on vocals and keyboards?

Stephen played keyboard for Brisbane punk band, the Black Assassins. (H-Ref 12)

Lecture 2

Um..Hey..not feeling the love for blogging at the moment.. =__="

Our Lecturer was this Stephen guy for week 2..forgot his last name. sorry.
Anywho.. he was talking about the time line of computers and the history of the internet.. pretty interesting I say.. I mean, the first Macintosh laptop cost about $666.60. its weird to me because I'm religious..I go to church like twice a week.. I'm serious =_='.. so what I'm saying is..that's the devil's number..so yeah..

Here's an image. Its ugly but not evil or is it?Found the image Here. That's pretty much all I remember in my lecture.. it was fascinating but yeah.. I don't know how much I am suppose to write..

Thanks for reading ^^..

Lecture 3

So this week's lecture was very informative on camera film shots. The lecturer describes the all the different shot involves in shooting in front of the camera.

'Cine-speak' learning the language of cinema.. fascinated?.. i know you are. =PThe lecturer also mentioned how camera shots can be depicted and examine from the different shots it can take. Informing of of the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How?.. each relating to a different camera shot.

Who? Close-Up. The 'who' answers by showing character in detail.
What? The Mid Shot answers the 'what' question by showing your subject performing an action.

Where? The Long Shot is our answer to the 'where' question, at the beginning of a scene it is also known as the Establishing Shot.

When? Both the Wide Shot and the Close-Up can help us answer the 'when' question. Time can be a difficult thing to capture on the screen.

Why? The Big Close-Up help answer the 'why' question, usually by revealing more about their character and actions.

How? A Single Medium Close-Up or a series of Close-Ups explain an event and answer the 'how' question.

Josh also mentioned about talking room. I made pictures describing them in my lecture notes. Stick figures are awesome! He also discuss about the 'Rules of Thirds' and the 180 degree rule, my drawing sucks of course. eh.. i Googled for an image. LolTowards the end of the lecture, Josh also added that 'every shot has a purpose'. So weird.. its like a proverb.. Lol.. but yeah.. it's important for the narrative film/story to be understood by the audience, thus accomplishing what the director/writer wants to convey. I Think that's what its means..
So yeah.. it was a pretty interesting lecture..sort of..at first I expected something like learning more about history of computer, internet etc.

Anyways.. this is my summary of the lecture. It was alright. Lol

Lectuer 1

HEy, its freaking cold..I'm not a fan of the 8am lecture.. =__="

So anyway..First lecture.. I've seen the lecturer before.. in like orientation I think? for BArts.. he showed my group the similarities of 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Burton'.. to 'Forest Gump'.. same writer and the very similar storyline.. but the growing up old and dying young part.. unusual I'd say.. Anyways.. he kind of convinced me to do the course film and screen.. he said all we would do is watch movies from week to week.. he was right of course.. besides from the worksheets, essay and three hour exam.. no sweat.. it really was. Lol..

So..there I was sitting next to my group of friends.. him talking about how technology has gone so far in the past century and still advancing everyday.. he discussed what was old and new technology considered in our society..

New technology today are Computers, Mobile Phones [sms/mms].. O_O and Internet [email (slowing dying he describe.. couldn't spell dying*), Message Boards/Discussion List and Instant Messaging.

Also others included through the Internet such as Blogging, Twitter and Social Networking.. which of course.. who could live without? hello! Facebook, Myspace.. etc.

Old technology as he described such as Oral Communication, Graphic, Written [Mail], Radio (which my dad listens to still..] Telephone [Landline] and finally Television (surprisingly television is quite old but have not died out.. which is a good thing.. WE can't live out without the idiot box.. :P)

So many accomplishments in technology.. our Convergence per se.. yet we are already consumed in it.. although think a robot dog is just plain creepy.. then again it would die like most pets I've ever own.. actually none have died.. just ran away and lucky they did.. ^^"

So anyway.. We still have long ways to go.. learn about that is.. Hopefully this course gets more interesting.. I hope.. technology is the greatest! Although one question: "Which is smarter? Computer or Human?" Lol.. maybe ill find out at the end of this course.. LOL..

First Entry!

Hi.. So this is my first entry.. I finally figured it out..LOL

I'm student on Barts. First year.. and major in Japanese.

Um.. 1501HUM New Communication Technology is not so bad.. Lol

BEWARE.. I tend to babble.. thus, I'll try to keep it short.

O.o.. Okay..so I missed my first tutorial for this class because i was sick.. and my friend in the same class couldn't be bothered to go either.. Lol.. well.. since I'm not there as well.. I'm that special to her.. Lol =P

So yeah.. here I am now.. what we had to do was create an email and a couple of blogs.. simple enough..sort of.. the blog took some time..Lol.. thus, my babble goes on.. I think blogs and I are gonna get along just fine.. :P .. We have to type like two blogs a week.. fun..? my previous blog down the bottom is an activity we did in week two.. Convergence.. blah blah.. how my phone has evolved from numerous technology such as a camera, video and music etc.. has converted into my little smartphone.. Ahhhh.. a Lifesaver.. ^^

Okay..this has been a weird blog i have typed.. aka im weird in general.. Lol.. I just wanted to introduce myself.. and see how it goes..
I hope i make friends ^^" i recommend you follow me.. >.<

So yeah.. see how this blogging thing goes..

GAN BA TTE!!(good luck)

Thanks for reading.

Convergence?

Hey! So this is week 2 and our tutorial activity is finding the definition of convergence and so on.. so yeah.. it's interesting =)

I found the meaning of convergence in the apple dictionary.. i also have a dictionary in my smartphone..see talk about convergence..LOL..but its not as good as the apple dictionary though..

"convergence |kənˈvərjəns| (also convergency |-jənsē|)
noun
the process or state of converging : the convergence of lines in the distance.
• Biology the tendency of unrelated animals and plants to evolve superficially similar characteristics under similar environmental conditions.
• (also convergence zone) a location where air flows or ocean currents meet, characteristically marked by upwelling (of air) or downwelling (of water)."

I've learned the convergence of technology over the past decade of telecommunication has changed to like a miniature computer(smartphone).

One of the things I could not live without.. LOL.. seriously

iPhone Vs past telecomunication. Now..all in One. iPhone is here..

Find your way with GPS on your iPhone..

The Gadget: Griffin’s Simplifi dock for iPod or iPhone, which aims to de-clutter your desk by tossing in a reader for CF, SD, XD and Memory Stick Pro cards and a two-port powered USB 2.0 hub. The right kind of convergence.
